The Velocity & Voluptuousness Of Vivid Aloe Awesomeness – Aloe marlothii

Game over!  Are you feeling the bodacious beauticiousness of these blooms!?  Color so psychedelic, so beautifully contrasting, it’s ridiculous!  And that’s a good thing. Just down the street from me, blooming right now, live and in concert is a neighbor’s outrageously cool Aloe marlothii also known as the Mountain Aloe or Flat-Flowering Aloe.

I’ve just added Aloe marlothii to the list of my favorite aloes.  Check this out.  This is one drought tolerant succulent that packs a stunning punch when it comes to plant architecture, tone, and texture.  Something about its wicked and wild demeanor just sucks you into its orbit of outrageous opulence.  If you want to make a bold statement, here’s the aloe to do it with.  It’s big, chunky and fantastically funky. Starts off on the ground then grows up to 10 feet tall with rosettes spanning a diameter up to 5 feet wide.  In its maturity, it takes on a somewhat palm tree-like appearance.

On a textural note, its impressive leaves take on a blue-green tone and are stippled with rowdy reddish spines that give the plant a racy rugged look.  On a tonal note, it’s radical, candelabra-like racemes of flowers, which appear anywhere from late winter to spring, are richly gradated in orange, amber, and golden color.  Aloe marlothii is great in the ground and in containers.  Added bonus, it is a drought tolerant aloe that doesn’t require summer watering.  It likes full sun, well-draining soil, low water the rest of the year, and is hardy to around 25 degrees fahrenheit/-3 degrees celsius.  Whether, it’s in or out of bloom, Aloe marlothii will catch your eye in seconds with its textures, tones, and vivid voluptuousness.  Definitely, an awesomely architectural specimen aloe to behold!
