So the other day I was over at the house of my friend James. He's is a fellow plantaholic. I was walking in his driveway and stopped dead in my tracks by this mysterious beauty. Immediately I asked him, "What is it and how can I get one!?". He told me it was something he bought several years ago from a nursery somewhere in Southern California that was going out of business. Immediately, I was obsessed! I had to have it. This unreal flower belongs to Pavonia xgledhilii. Where have you been all of my life?! This evergreen shrub comes to us as a hybrid from Brazil. It grows up to 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide. It is from tropical climes so know that its not a fan of continual cool conditions and frost is the kiss of the death. On the flip side, it likes warm conditions, part sun, regular water, and will grow well in fertile, well-drained soil. It does well in containers and looks like it would make an amazing cut flower. For the bold and the daring this plant looks too good to pass up. Scour the web, check rare plant mail order sites, send up the search lights and you just might come across this tropical trophy.
