Today's post is brought to you by the seedpods of the commonly known Carrot Wood Tree; botanically known as Cupaniopsis anacardioides. This evergreen shade tree comes to us from Australia. It's used as a street tree here in Los Angeles. Most of the year its not much to look at. However, it produces small yellowish-orange fruit pods. When the pods open its a sight to behold as deep orange seeds with black pits are revealed. So vivid, so alien. Lookout for branches of them in your local flower market.
