It's So Unreal

[singlepic id=72 w=620 h= mode=watermark float=] |Puya berteroniana| When I first saw the flowers of this plant I thought I was losing my mind!  They look so unreal...almost synthetic but they're not!  This cooler than cool specimen is Puya berteroniana.  It's in the bromeliad family and comes to us from Chile.  It needs full sun, sharp draining soil, and little to no water to look its best and produce some of the most vivid electric teal flowers you've ever seen.  Add the orange anthers that look like smoldering embers.  Pure hotness!  In warmer climes it does great outdoors otherwise you can grow it as a house plant but be warned... its spiny swordlike leaves might try to eat you.  But hey, when you can grow something that produces such surprisingly surreal flowers that are a dangerously delicious feast for the eyes...why not.  Look for them at www.anniesannuals.com.
