Bushfire baby Bushfire! Russelia equisetiformis also known as the Firecracker Plant gives us fountains of caliente realness.  By realness I mean imagine a plant that produces a sumptuous spill of lusciously layered foliage that has the look and feel of a Fantasy Island waterfall. Come spring and summer, this fashionable foliage produces a cascade of scarlet tubular flowers filled with a nectar no hummingbird could resist!  Even better, this plant tolerates drought. Win.  Tolerates wet soil. Win.  Even tolerates salty soil. Win again.  The Firecracker Plant comes to us from Mexico where it loves the warm climate.  So if you're living in a cool area with warm summers try it as a summer annual in a sunny spot.  If you're living in a warm climate try it as a perennial.  It looks awesome spilling out of containers, over walls, anywhere you can let it cascade like a waterfall.  Give it some regular fertilizer and wait.  You will soon experience a tropical tantrum of color like no other.
