I'm all about happy accidents. Especially those created by nature. In this case, when no one was looking, the color in my garden came raining down on a summer's day leaving behind floating islands of floral fantasy. The islands I speak of are the rich, vibrant purple flowers of Tibouchina urvilleana, the commonly known Princess flower, and the fiercely fuchsia bracts with white flowers of Bougainvillea 'Barbara Karst'. The colors are so vibrant, so distinct, and electric. The boldness and the beauty it generates is intoxicating. Seeing this colorful electricity sends a charge through me. It's a visual power that taps into emotion and conjures a mood. It gets me thinking about how nature is such an inspiration for artists, designers of all types, and connoisseurs of beauty.
Now for some of you this combination of Tibouchina urvilleana and Bougainvillea 'Barbara Karst' might not be your thing but the beauty of nature is that there are so many other combinations out there. What about other floral or foliage combinations of color? Do any resonate with you in a positive way? I'm talking in a drive-you-wild way. I say experiment with color. See how it makes you feel. Plants and other elements of nature are an organic way to create a moment, a mood. When you're out and about take a look at nature's offerings. Be on the look out for happy accidents. If what you see effects you then why not bring some ideas of it into your world.
